Job advice for those wanting a pay rise - with Shelley Weaver

Shelley Weaver.
Twenty-five years in construction recruitment & has never been on-camera until now!
She is advising the right way to go about getting a pay rise.
Honest advice from a seasoned professional.

When I asked Shelley to participate in her first social media video post, she initially said "no thanks".  I assumed this was because of how busy the Permanent Recruitment team is in the lead up to Christmas. Also compounding the workload is the massive demand for new staff in the construction sector since the end of the recent Melbourne lockdown.

It turns out it's she is camera shy!

Once in front of the camera, Shelley, with her  25 years of construction recruitment experience, delivered a real, honest and somewhat raw piece of advice to those who are just seeking a pay rise with their current company.

The long and short of it was you have to ASK to receive.

Shelley has experienced many people looking for a pay increase and seen some go for a new role, get an offer and then use this as leverage with their current employer for a pay rise. Shelley categorically says, "do not do this as your first step".

Watch the video below to hear Shelley's full advice...

In summary, if the only reason you're exploring new opportunities is a pay rise, but you haven't asked for one yet, make that your first task.

It will save you a lot of time, effort and possibly reputation damage if you ask the question of your current employer first.

Then based on the answer (and the $$$ amount), you'll be able to put a plan in place to start your new job search knowing that you will be closing one door before opening another one.

Reach out to Shelley for a confidential discussion on your next steps - be it how to broach the pay rise subject with your current employer, or you want to explore new career opportunities.
