Early this year, we partnered with Autism Awareness Australia to raise awareness about diversity in the workplace and celebrate it. In fact, it’s a topic close to our hearts.
We work with a large number of Construction Companies who share the same values as JV when it comes to diversity in the workplace – which is of course great to see and be a part of.
So when we asked Visioneer Builders to partner with us on an initiative to help a young lad who desired to work in the construction industry, they were only too happy to get involved.
This leads us to talk about the amazing individual… Corban.
Corban has a desire to become a bricklayer once he finishes high school. Our Senior Consultant Eddie Hayes initially setup the meeting to gain young Corban real, paid, on-site work experience. JV’s Director Stuart Campbell was completely on-board with it, and Senior Consultant Rob Kenny knew just the builder to talk to.
With incredible guidance from Visioneer Site Manager Paul Jones, we were all set to get Corban a full week of on-site work experience. To give him the best and most realistic experience, Corban joined Visioneer as a Labourer, initially working with the Visioneer team and experienced JV Labour Hire Labourers to learn about safety, risks, duties and processes. It didn’t take long for him to master the craft…
After a full week of working onsite, the fantastic news is that Corban still wants to be a bricklayer, so getting the opportunity to be on-site and gain this valuable experience has helped him realise that a solid career path is waiting for him after high school.
The Visioneer team were so impressed that they have offered to have Corban back on-site when he’s available in school holidays and beyond.
So really, this post is about celebrating diversity in the workplace, whilst highlighting that we as humans are all individual, yet all capable of achieving great careers no matter our differences.
A huge thanks to Visioneer Builders for supporting this initiative with JV. We could not be more thankful for your time and effort in setting this up – with special thanks to Visioneer Site Manager Paul Jones.
A big thanks to all those involved from JV. You efforts with all of our initiatives are so greatly appreciated.
And finally, the biggest of thanks to Corban and his family for participating in our work experience initiative. We’re all so happy that you had a great experience and now have an understanding of what it’s like to work on-site in the construction sector.
