However, in the midst of these challenges we have choices. Attitudinal choices. I take inspiration from the great Neil Daniher, a successful former Australian Football League player and coach who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2013. His determination to live life to the fullest and face challenges with courage, humour and determination to help those around him is nothing short of inspirational.
His 2019 speech to AFL's Melbourne Football Club truly captures this important message and if you haven't already seen it, I encourage you to take a moment to watch his amazing speech. It will, without a doubt, challenge your thinking personally and professionally, especially with regard to how you deal with the current life challenges of this pandemic, offering a fresh perspective.
Impressive, indeed!
Now, time to get out of BED!
Daily, I try to teach my staff the importance of 'O.R.A.B.E.D.'
For the first part; Ownership, Responsibility, and Accountability. I try and live this daily, but sometimes that can be tough. You fall out of BED, into Blame, Excuse and Denial.
I often go back to this speech and it inspires me to reflect and see the opportunity in the face of challenge. Because the easy option is to get stuck in a hole of self-pity or blame. Neil's speech inspires and gives me the courage to reflect introspectively, and see the opportunity in any situation
Over time, and with practice, you can choose your attitude. You can challenge yourself to transcend.
