Candidate story - Martin

Paul Smythe • October 11, 2020
I was thinking to myself "How is it October?" as I sat at my desk, ready to start the day. As I began working, a memory popped up of a video I'd shared nearly 12 months ago.

The video was of Martin - a candidate I'd placed into a permanent position as a Site Supervisor, telling us about his experience with JV. He'd been successful in joining a well known construction company in their Interiors department. He was assigned to a high profile project in the city, and had just moved to Melbourne from New Zealand with his family and was ready to hit the ground running.

Martin is a pretty chilled character, and had no problem saying a few words on camera. Here's the video:

Fast forward to today, I gave Martin a call to see how he's going - and he had great news. He has been promoted to a Site Manager and has been going from strength to strength - even through the pandemic.

Hearing his great news, this inspired me to share his story.

Martin is proof that even in these unusual times with COVID-19 affecting our normal way of life, there are still opportunities for career progression. It's been through nothing short of hard work that Martin has been promoted - and it's well deserved.

The point of sharing Martin's story from a year ago to now, is to say:

  • If you're struggling through the Melbourne lockdown, keep pushing.
  • If you're chasing that promotion, keep pushing.
  • And if you're like the many thousands who've been stood down or lost their jobs, keep pushing.

While times are tough, maintaining focus and drive will eventually get you where you want to be. Take Martin - a promotion during a pandemic and a lockdown. Opportunities are out there. You've got to keep pushing.

If you're in the Melbourne Construction or Civil sectors looking for Full-time, Contract or Labour Hire positions, the team at JV are always here to help. We've got a network of Construction and Civil companies who, even in these tough times are employing candidates for a variety of roles.

Our website is updated weekly with new opportunities, and as restrictions continue to ease, we expect to see more and more opportunities become available.

So for now, I'll sign off by saying well done Martin!
